“I Wanted My Health Back”: How Malone Took Control and Transformed Her Energy and Strength at CFNC

When Malone Powell Taylor moved to North Charleston, she felt like she was starting over in more ways than one.

After months of not working out—something she used to enjoy—her energy was low, her strength had dipped, and she felt like she had fallen off track. On top of that, autoimmune health issues made it even harder to stay consistent.

“I had recently moved to the North Charleston area,” Malone says, “and I was looking for a gym that would motivate me, hold me accountable, and really help me get my health back on track.”

The Problem: She Wasn’t Just Looking for a Workout—She Wanted a Community

Malone wasn’t new to fitness. Back in Alabama, she had a gym that felt more like family—people who pushed her, encouraged her, and helped her get better.

But after moving, she struggled to find the same atmosphere. She tried F45 but quickly realized something was missing.

“I felt like just a number. There was no accountability, no connection, and honestly, no motivation to show up.”

A Fresh Start at CFNC

Everything changed when she joined CrossFit North Charleston in January.

“Right away, I noticed how welcoming everyone was,” Malone shares. “The coaches were patient, they actually coached, and even long-time members would give tips or just cheer you on when things got tough.”

At first, it wasn’t easy. After four months off, everything felt harder. Movements felt unfamiliar. Weights felt heavier.

“But something shifted… I found myself looking forward to class every day. I didn’t need accountability anymore—I wanted to be there.”

The Breakthrough: Regaining Strength, Energy, and Confidence

Since joining CFNC, Malone hasn’t just gotten stronger—she’s feeling the healthiest she’s felt in a long time.

“I’ve lost weight, but more importantly, I’m lifting heavier than I ever have before. My energy is back, my stress is lower, and I haven’t gotten sick once in the last seven months, which honestly feels like a miracle with my immune system.”

What She’d Tell Anyone Who Feels Stuck

Malone remembers feeling intimidated on day one, worrying she wasn’t strong enough or wouldn’t be able to keep up.

“But my biggest advice? Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Just focus on your own progress, and you’ll be amazed at what you can do. Every movement has a modification, every workout can be adjusted. No matter where you’re starting from, you can do CrossFit.”

Today, Malone looks forward to that hour each day where she gets to challenge herself, push her limits, and come out feeling stronger.
